Ecclesiastes

Most Sundays I do my Bible reading and then go on a little photo excursion to take some pictures that correspond with the words I read... but today I am not offering my own photographs to you on this blog.

Today, instead, I want to pay tribute to the man in this video, and to our church pastor, Dr. David denHartog, who introduced our congregation to this video this morning. Please watch.

Also I wanted to take this opportunity to tell all the people in my life that I love them VERY much and that I appreciate all the millions of things they do or have done for me. I hope that I am making a positive difference, in your life, too.

And now, for my Bible reading: today while reading through Ecclesiastes, I was especially touched by two passages.

The first, of course, you probably already know:
"Everything on earth
has its own time
and its own season.
There is a time
for birth and death,
planting and reaping,
for killing and healing,
destroying and building,
for crying and laughing,
weeping and dancing,
for throwing stones
and gathering stones,
embracing and parting.
There is a time
for finding and losing,
keeping and giving,
for tearing and sewing,
listening and speaking.
There is also a time
for love and hate,
for war and peace." - Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Also, having just finished hearing a series of sermons about Biblical love (yes, Pastor Dave, we hear you, and we remember what you say), I am struck by this verse: '...Some people don't have friends or family. But they are never satisfied with what they own, and they never stop working to get more. They should ask themselves, "Why am I always working to have more? Who will get what I leave behind?" What a senseless and miserable life!' - Ecclesiastes 4:8

It is better to have a friend... and love the people around you... than to have all the riches in the world.

(p.s. Dear family: I love you. Dear Granny and sweet Aunt Joy: I miss you.)

2 Chronicles 23:8 to 2 Chronicles 32:33

This passage struck a chord with me:  "About this same time, Hezekiah got sick and was almost dead. He prayed, and the Lord gave him a sign that he would recover. But Hezekiah was so proud that he refused to thank the Lord for everything he had done for him. This made the Lord angry, and he punished Hezekiah and the people of Judah and Jerusalem. Hezekiah and the people later felt sorry and asked the Lord to forgive them. So the Lord did not punish them as long as Hezekiah was king." (2 Chronicles 32:24-26)

If you know nothing else about me, know that I am a fibromyalgia and CFS survivor. About ten years ago, I became very sick, and "was almost dead." During those hard years, I remember praying a lot to God, asking Him to heal me. And then, He did. And then, I stopped praying so much.

And so, starting right now, I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank my Lord God for everything He has done for me. He's done absolutely incredible things for me, and I am ever grateful.

I am sorry, Lord, for sometimes forgetting all You've done for me, and for only turning to You when I need help. Thank You, God, for doing all these wonderful things... and thank you for BEING wonderful. I should praise You every day, all the time. You deserve no less.

Extra Special Thank You

Just wanted to take this opportunity to publicly praise and thank God for being who He is, and for all the blessings He has heaped upon me. Even apart from those, He is worthy of praise.

Numbers (Week 2)

Totally slacked off on my reading this week (Happy Thanksgiving, Yall!) so I am still in Numbers... but today was such a beautiful day. I found this perfect little place in a town called Joshua with the trees you see below... and I realized that although the book of Numbers in the Bible is still important to read and understand, the only number that truly matters is: one. There is only one God, and He is good.

Genesis 26-50

I finally made it to the end of Genesis... Yes, I've heard most of the stories before, but not quite how I hear them now. Thank you Lord God, for your Word.
